BCF/BCCS TESTS STANDARDISATION PROCEDURES The Human Engine: The human engine is notoriously unreliable for comparing power outputs so we do not recommend using a rider as a means of checking your trainers output against ours as simply eating or drinking something can affect a rider by around 5% within minutes as blood is diverted to the stomach and the body is relaxed (see the following BCF procedures extracted from our handbook). 1. The Environment a. Select special quiet area isolated from other influences e.g. training, non-essential personnel etc. b. Only conduct test in a well ventilated area with room temperature between 20 - 22 degrees celsius and a relative humidity of less than 80%. c. Conduct the test procedures without "peripheral" personnel who may influence the performance of the subject. Only the coach and test administering staff should be present. d. DO NOT provide any motivation to the rider WHATSOEVER. 2. The Rider's Rule a. Ensure that the rider uses the machine which is normally used for racing/training with a normal range of gears, and that any subsequent tests are performed on the SAME machine. b. Ensure that the tyre pressure is set to 100 psi. (Provided the tyre is rated for this, otherwise max possible allowed). c. Ensure that the rider's machine is clean and free from obstructions likely to interfere with the equipment. 3. The Rider's Clothing a. Prior to the test allow the rider to warm-up in his usual indoor training clothes. b. During the actual test procedures have the rider dress ONLY in racing vest shorts, socks and 4. The Cooling Fan b. Place the fan approximately 1.5 metres in front of the rider, at handlebar height and directed at the rider's head and neck. 5. The Rider e.g. injury, colds, flu, etc. |
